Description
The specimen is a slice of brain, taken through the parietal area and showing, on the left-hand
side, a discrete, well-demarcated tumour deposit, with central cavitation.
 History
This man presented in December 1974 with inco-ordination of the right hand and
weakness of the right cheek. His finger-nails were markedly clubbed, and he later developed
dysphagia as well as dysarthria. A chest X-ray showed no tumour. He had severe chronic
respiratory disease. He died in June 1975 and, at autopsy, was shown to have a
poorly-differentiated adenocarcinoma of the lung, with cerebral metastases.
